PUNJABI WEDDING

Punjabis are simple yet fun-loving people who believe in expressing their emotion with gusto. Similar to their nature, their weddings reflect their life philosophy. Punjabi weddings are colorful, loud, sometimes over the top, fun-filled with lots of opportunities for singing and dancing one’s heart out. Punjabi weddings may be simple or lavish, but they ensure unlimited fun and celebration. A host of pre and post-wedding rituals make a Punjabi wedding a lengthy and enjoyable affair. Although, Punjabis do not miss an opportunity to make merry, their weddings display their propensity towards adhering to age-old traditions, albeit with a conventional twist to them sometimes.

Gujarati Wedding

Gujarat is known for its great culture, and delicious vegetarian food. All of these traits come together during a typical Gujarati wedding where the union of two souls is not just a bunch of ancient rituals, but a true celebration. There will hardly be a dull moment, with multiple pre and post-wedding rituals, vivacious dancing, and adherence to tradition. The sheer warmth of the hosts and their careful attention to detail for your comfort are sure to win your heart. It is a two or three-day’s affair with multiple rituals observed through each day. If you can imagine a wedding full of fun and frolic without being over the top showy affair; then you must have experienced a true Gujarati Wedding.

Bengali Wedding

A Bengali Wedding often referred to as ‘Biye ’is quite a visual treat. A host of deep, meaningful rituals seeped in culture and tradition are performed amidst the riot of colorfully elegant and immensely creative decorations. Bengali weddings are celebrations of color, camaraderie and beauty above all else. They forgo the showing off, keeping the roots firmly on traditional elements. They are elaborate affairs with celebrations spanning for 2-3 days from morning till night. 

Sindhi Wedding

Sindhi weddings are generally lavish affairs with lots of razzle-dazzle involved. Weddings generally involve quite a number of rituals and customs which involve a lot of fun and merriment. While the element of fun is ever-present in a Sindhi wedding, traditions hold equal importance to having a good time. Sindhis are Sanatani Hindus and Sindhi weddings reflect a blend of Hinduism and Sufism. The marriages are conducted in accordance with Vedic rites and they usually take place on universally recognized auspicious days like Satyanarayan Chandsi or the new moon day. Lip-smacking delicacies, fun-filled mood, oodles of display of wealth and adherence to age-old customs make Sindhi weddings a must-experience event.

Marwari Wedding

Marwaris hail from the region of Marwar, modern-day Jodhpur region, in southwestern Rajasthan, India. In modern times, Marwaris comprise of one of the biggest business communities of India. Wealthy and prosperous, weddings in the Marwari community are expensive affairs with celebrations spanning for days. Yet Marwari marriages are very traditional when it comes to customs and rituals. They are elaborate and sparkly where the display of wealth during a wedding is unmistakable but done in an understated yet ritualistic way. 

Sikh Wedding

Sikhs are also one of the most powerful warriors among Indian communities but are lovers of peace as preached by their revered Gurus. Marriage and family are considered to be one of the primary duties of a Sikh. Through the holy union of marriage one is brought closer to the Divine Love. The Sikh marriage ceremony is known as ‘Anand Karaj’, which has been recognized by the Indian Government since 1909. Sikhism is strictly against the practice of dowry at the time of marriage, and grants equal rights to men and women during the process of the wedding. A celebration of union, a Sikh Wedding spans several days of pre and post-wedding ceremonies. The rich culture and strict adherence to religious codes of conduct make the Sikh wedding a study the contrast. 

South Indian Wedding Tamil / Telugu Wedding
Weddings down south are very different from those up north of India. Tamil people represent the major identity of South Indian communities and are known for their stress on simple living and great education. Typical Tamil weddings are more about sticking to the age old customs and traditions than a lavish affair. For the Tamilians, the spiritual symbolism of a wedding is paramount rather than all the pomp and show.
